COMPLETE- “always a heavy head” 8 inches by 8 inches. acrylic. april 21, 2009.
I will first say that I am not thrilled with the way that this turned out. I’ll admit I’m not a very comfortable painter, and the hesitant strokes and color choices involved with the figure led me into a lot of self-doubt. One of the most difficult tasks involved in creating art is recognizing when it is time to call a piece “finished”. I overdid this one. OH WELL! I’m learning.
This is a piece that I created for the Bakersfield Visual Arts Festival. The theme for the show is “Roots”, which immediately translated into “gut, core, anchor, etc.” for me. You know, the basis of your everything. The basis of MY everything is currently a whole lot of jumbled confusion, thus the inflating head. I’ve drawn similar doodles all over Biology lecture notes when the 25 unit load has seemed especially heavy on my brain.
No matter how unpleased I may be with the final product, it does feel good to have completed something. Now, on to the 3 other art projects, the 5 page paper I’m supposed to have written by 7:20 tomorrow morning, studying for the Biology exam I will take directly after, the Logic exam on Friday, and the bajillions of other school-related things I must do in the next 4 weeks.
See what I mean? Exploding head.
